Schwalm-Nette Nature Reserve




The charming scenery of the attractive Schwalm-Nette nature reserve stretches along the German-Dutch border. This area covers some 435 sq km in the Kleve, Viersen and Heinsberg districts, as well as the city of Mönchengladbach. Schwalm-Nette nature reserve was founded in 1965 and was added to the 789 sq km German-Dutch national park of Maas-Schwalm-Nette in the year of 1976.

Its catchment area as a regional and weekend recreational site of significance extends into the Rhine and Ruhr conurbations and across to the Netherands.
